15″ Old Abe Plush Mascot

$24.95

During the Civil War, it was common for Army units to have live animals as mascots. Old Abe, the bald eagle that became the mascot of the Eighth Regiment of Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, participated in thirty-seven Civil War engagements. After flying straight into the fight at the Battle of Corinth, Old Abe became a hero and legend not only to the men with whom he served, but to men, women, and children throughout the country. After the war he embarked upon a second career as a living symbol of the victorious Union.
