About Schott
Schott is a fourth-generation run, family-owned business. The company began in 1913 when two immigrant brothers began selling their raincoats door to door. Today Schott is perhaps best known for their Perfecto motorcycle jacket. Introduced in 1928, it is considered the first true motorcycle jacket and gained popularity in the 1950s when Hollywood stars Marlon Brando and James Dean began wearing them. The Perfecto has remained popular with musicians, including The Ramones and Bruce Springsteen, and Hollywood stars through the years. During World War II, Schott made bomber jackets and pea coats for the United States military. Today the company makes other high-quality apparel such as this sweater inspired by their incredible heritage.
About Us
Thank you for visiting the Wisconsin Veterans Museum’s website! Since 2013, the WVM has been a proud Smithsonian Affiliate. However, the Museum’s roots reach back far deeper to 1901. In that year Wisconsin’s Civil War veterans opened the GAR Memorial Hall in the State Capitol building. The Museum exists to acknowledge, commemorate, and affirm the role Wisconsin veterans have played in our nation’s life. The WVM is an educational activity of the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs. All purchases, both online and in-person at the Museum in Madison, Wisconsin, help us fulfill our mission. For that, we thank you.
Every Veteran is a Story…
Between the archival material, objects collection, and oral histories, the Wisconsin Veterans Museum has over 30,000 unique items related to the military service of our State’s residents. One of these objects, V1999.37, is a sweater issued to Jules C. Carpiaux when he served in the Navy as a submariner during World War II. Jules called Green Bay, Wisconsin home.
