Lockheed® P-38 LIGHTNING® is a fast and heavily armed American long-range fighter aircraft from World War II. This unusual twin-engine aircraft had a gondola with a cockpit located between two fuselages. so-called The “flying frame” provided very good performance, which translated into a long production period lasting from 1941 to 1945 and an excellent number of kills by American pilots. The aircraft was decommissioned only in 1965.

In addition to award-winning exhibits and in-person events, the Wisconsin Veterans Museum has a strong online presence. Since 1993, the Museum has been located on Capitol Square in downtown Madison, Wisconsin. Prior to that time, the Museum was housed in a small room within the State Capitol building itself.
