Coming Soon to the Wisconsin Veterans Museum – “On Wisconsin” by Michael Thorson
This item is going to be released soon through the Wisconsin Veterans Museum Gift Store. It will be available through our physical store at 30 W. Mifflin Street in Madison, WI and also online. The painting is a depiction of the 24th Wisconsin’s assault on Confederate positions at the Battle of Missionary Ridge in November 1863. Military and Wisconsin lore look to the origins of the phrase, “On Wisconsin!” was first uttered here by Col. Arthur MacArthur of the 24th Wisconsin as a way to motivate his men and successfully take the position.
